Now that we’re halfway through January, many people are finding it harder and harder to stick to their New Year’s resolutions, many of which pertain to health and fitness. They give the same excuses: “I don’t have time to go to the gym”, “I can’t afford a personal trainer”, “I don’t like working out alone” and so on. Say goodbye to those excuses because our developers have created a personal fitness app that uses artificial intelligence to get you back on track by giving you a personal trainer right in your own pocket. Watch the video below to see the app in action:
Akvelon Hackathon Competition
This app was created for an internal Akvelon Hackathon that our Kharkiv and Yaroslavl offices participated in. The theme of this hackathon was “healthy lifestyle and sports” and team “4Move” (comprised of Data Scientist/Software Engineer Danylo Kosmin and .NET Developer Oleksandr Nikiforov) took home a special prize for their personal fitness app. Danylo and Oleksandr saw a need for an inexpensive and hassle-free way to work out, but also recognized that a lot of people want extra coaching and a personalized workout plan.
Developing the App
With this in mind, Danylo and Oleksandr developed a fitness app that uses AI to sync with any online workout video and tracks how well the user mimics the online coach’s movement and form. The app detects key points on the user’s body and compares those same key points on the coach’s body to ensure that the user is following the workout correctly while performing an analysis of the exercise.
Analytics
The app follows the user as they go through their workout and analyzes compliance and assesses the quality of the workout based on statistics from other trainers. Right now the accuracy of the app is at 79% and our developers are continuing to improve this product as development moves forward.
Taking the app one step further
One of the best ways to stick with your workout plan is to share with others so you can support and encourage each other. That’s why our developers added the ability to share your statistics online to your social media accounts. By choosing to share online, you can compare your results to other app users, all while receiving support from your friends and followers and encouraging them to get active too.
This personal fitness app is a great alternative to a regular gym routine or an in-person trainer because it is easy to use, less expensive than a personal trainer or gym membership, and you can actually see your results in real time.
The app is still in development and will be available to the public once it has been perfected. Keep an eye out for the launch announcement!
