Client
Perlego Systems, Inc. provides end-to-end mobile device lifecycle management solutions which allow enterprises, resellers, and device manufacturers to effectively manage deployed smart wireless devices, regardless of platform or carrier. Horizons is Perlego’s mobile device lifecycle management suite which leverages a software-as-a-service architecture and over the air technology to provide businesses with comprehensive mobile device management capability. This includes bootstrapping devices, deploying and managing applications, controlling access to device, auditing and many other functions.
Business Need
Perlego needed to on-board BlackBerry devices into its managed devices family. This meant creating a remote agent for BlackBerry-type smart devices as well as implementing server side functionality to integrate seamlessly with BES. With short time frame and limited resource availability Perlego decided to have the project implemented by a vendor specializing in this kind of low level mobile and client-server mobile application development. After an extensive vendor selection process Perlego selected Akvelon.
Solution
Akvelon quickly assembled a dedicated project team led by a US-based Project Manager. The team was able to deliver the project on time and within budget, while being very flexible to accommodate changes in approach and shifting project requirements.
Technology Used
The client-side implementation consisted of creating a device-residing client that communicated with Perlego management servers processing its commands. Server-side implementation required creating an application that could reside in parallel with BES and allow for complete device control for non-BES enabled devices. The project required working with very low-level BlackBerry APIs hooking at the most native level to make sure no application on the device would be able to circumvent the management framework.
Akvelon delivered BlackBerry functionality to ship on time and within budget. BlackBerry is the most popular mobile device with business users and adding BlackBerry smart-phones to its roster of managed devices allowed Perlego to penetrate and begin monetization of this highly lucrative market.
Akvelon has helped Perlego to drive efficiencies through:
- State of the art communication, project management, development and test processes
- Zero permanent head-count increase and zero staff turn over
- Ability to rapidly scale the team up as well as down as project requirements evolved
- Specific expertise and domain knowledge
- Complete visibility in to the team
- Reduction in total cost of development
